QVC cultivates an air of intimacy; many of its sets are designed to look like rooms in a home. Even though you already knew those rooms aren't real, a walk into the cavernous QVC studio space still comes as a shock. Beneath crisscrossing strips of lights and cameras, 17 sets nestle next to each other- a sort of Potemkin villa. And yet the place feels discount tiffany eerily empty. The vastness dwarfs the stagehands and models. Only the hosts, talking merrily to thin air, seem able to overcome all that empty space. They're the only ones who manage to look life-size.

But Galehead liad been tipped off, and the staff had hidden the oar in the woods atop measly Galehead Mountain. Is this legal? "Semi-legal," Alsofrom tells me. days later, still gloating. "We're like monsters. We steal and then we lie. It's awesome."WHEN I GO BACK TO THE WHITES, IT'S a bright, warm clay in early August, and I meet Teschner at the Gale River trailhead. He's on a mission. He's hiking up Galehead silver pendants Mountain to retrieve the hidden oar. "I just ate a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's," he says, walking toward me. "Let's see how that goes."

We start walking. Teschner's hair is a little longer now, less bristly, and he has patches of duct tape stuck on his shoulders, covering an oozing yellow m¨¦lange of friction sores. Two days earlier, he had packed his first century, laboring up the Gale River Trail bearing 110 pounds. "When I first came here," he says, "I thought carrying 50 pounds up the trail time after time was going to crush me. I didn't see how I could do it. The interpretation of Christopher Okigbo's poetry remains deeply controversial more than forty years after his death. The poet himself did not help matters by telling interviewers that he did not ever set tiffany necklaces on sale out to communicate meanings, but to make music. This paper investigates Okigbo's conception of the music of poetry and opens a new approach to the poet's work. It argues, through a close reading of two difficult poems of the 1962-66 period, that Okigbo's poetics did not prevent him from engaging deeply with the realities of his experience.

In January 1962, Christopher Okigbo (1932-67) moved his home from the enugu tiffany earrings sale campus of the university of Nigeria in eastern Nigeria to the Western Nigerian capital of Ibadan. He took with him the completed typescript of his debut volume of verse Heavensgate together with many draft poems that were later to be collected in Siren Limits and Fragments out of the Deluge. The three slim collections were all published at different times in 1962. With the appearance of Heavensgate, Okigbo's reputation as a foremost lyric poet was immediately established.

Lexical and semantic forms break down in the attempt to convey the enormity and mystery of the real. mallarm¨¦ did not go far enough. He needed to postulate that even when the poet wishes to give the experience of a known object, he could not do so by naming it. Professional poets of the African tradition, as Okigbo heard and read them, were technically not much different from eliot and the French symbolists. Those who praised Okigbo's verse pamphleteering during the 1966 crisis clearly thought that he shop for tiffany accessories valued the oriki and the town crier highly. But that was not the case. The craft of the traditional artisan in words falls within the category of speech craft that Okigbo dismissed as "platform poetry" in the interview that he gave to marjory Whitelaw. Okigbo adds a military motif to this description in "Lament of the masks" when he speaks of the elephant as "earth tremor of the giant silver necklaces iron steps of detonators." In "elegy for Alto," the motif is used in derision against politicians who in collusion with soldiers sneak into power with "giant hidden steps of howitzers and detonators." Gradually the motif is stylized until in "Silent Sisters" it is the ideogram for brute destructiveness. It has already been suggested that Okigbo intends in this passage to equate moloch's blood lust with the blood lust of martyr-making Jehovah and the brutality of political repression. It is against the inscrutable agency of these malignant forces that the muses raise their voices in poetry that is also a criticism of life.

Okigbo's poetry in 1962-64 required the utmost intellectual effort. He did not write spontaneously letting his emotions flow with lyrical ease or recollect his experiences in tranquility. He sat at his desk day after day working to master the techniques of famous twentieth-century practitioners: Pound, eliot, Lorca, Neruda, Jiminez, C¨¦saire, Senghor, Brutus, u'Tamsi, and Tagore, but most of all of the nineteenth-century legend mallarm¨¦. He wanted to be among the best and the most formidable and brought only a few poems to completion. Predictably the demand for perfection was its silver pendants own defeat.

"Silent Sisters" is a typical product of Ibadan in the mid-1960s. It shares with Wole Soyinka's The Interpreters and The Road, with Demas Nwoko's canvasses, Susan Wenger's batiks and Denis Williams's Other Leopards an ambitious intellectual silver rings quality. These works speak of an optimistic new Nigeria ready at the dawn of independence to take possession of the great legacies of the world and to add to them. The interest in experimental techniques is typical of that milieu and of a poet who always loved the exceptional.

She has to stay here with us, forever!"Shiva shakes her head, unfazed by her father's humor. Gabriel is graduating from high school and plans to move to a big city.
